PHOENIX – Grocery retail giant Kroger on Thursday announced that Phoenix will be the location of a new high-tech customer fulfillment center.
Kroger has partnered with Ocado – a grocery e-commerce technology company – to welcome customers online at all times.
The 200,000 square foot facility will create nearly 700 jobs and become operational two years after the site leads the way, according to a press release.
“We are delighted to see the potential of approximately 700 jobs in its first five years of operation,” Mayor Kate Gallego said in the statement.
“These jobs include, but are not limited to, transportation, warehousing, robotics, and technology, which are four of the strengths of the Phoenix workforce.”
The Customer Fulfillment Center is an “automated warehouse with digital and robotic capabilities” that will serve customers in Arizona and the Southwest region.
“With Kroger, we are developing a game-changing the ecosystem to serve online grocery shopping to customers across the United States, ”Ocado CEO Luke Jensen said in the statement.
“This includes the Ocado automated system [customer fulfillment centers] in a range of sizes, as well as software to optimize in-store execution for curbside pickup.
