A Surface Go 2 may have just appeared in 3DMark benchmarks and shows the tablet under hood upgrades. This is not the first time that the so-called Surface Go 2 has been used in benchmarks. An earlier leak found by NotebookCheck included a variant of the incoming tablet, in both LTE and non-LTE variants, powered by an Intel Core m3-8100Y dual-core processor.

A second entry in 3DMark, which was discovered by tipster @_rogame, now shows that the Surface Go 2 will also be available in a variant that is operated with the Pentium 4425Y processor from Intel.

There are now two options:

Both Surface Go 2 models come with 8B RAM according to the 3DMark list, and the m3-8100Y and Pentium 4425Y variants come with 128 GB and 256 GB of integrated SSD storage. Microsoft is expected to demonstrate the Surface Go 2 during a spring hardware launch, which will likely only take place online.

While this list confirms that we’ll see a stepping stone over the Pentium Gold 4415Y processor that powers the original Surface Go, second generation models with outdated processors will arrive.

The Pentium 4425Y is only 100 MHz higher than its predecessor and had problems with the 3DMark Time Spy benchmarks shared by @_rogame with a CPU value of 1.089 and a graphics value of 292.

The almost two-year-old Intel Core m3-8100Y with a base clock rate of 1.1 GHz performed slightly better with CPU and GPU values of 1,380 and 303, respectively. However, it should be remembered that the Surface Go is the entry-level model in the Surface product range from Microsoft. The original model was marketed for just $ 399.

Aside from the details of the device’s overwhelming innards, we still don’t know much about Microsoft’s next-generation 2-in-1 device, though the device should have a silver magnesium alloy and retain the rotating stand of the original Surface Go.
