In this news, we discuss the National Roaming Service approved by NCC for two mobile networks.
Two mobile networks have been approved to perform a national roaming service trial by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) for three months, according to a report released by Today Nigeria. The two telecom companies, Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) Nigeria and Emerging Markets Telecommunications Service Limited (EMTS) have been approved for the trial, which will start from August 1, 2020 to October 31, 2020.
EMTS and MTN aim to test and simulate the customer experience by configuring their networks due to approval. The National Roaming Geographical Area in Ondo State is under the authority of the approved trail coverage.
In the trial, companies will maintain roaming arrangements outside local borders. The main objective of the roaming service provider is to allow spontaneous exchange of incoming and outgoing calls and data by mobile subscribers. The service will also allow access to various services outside the local geographic area with the help of other operators to use the network coverage of other networks with roaming agreements to access the service.
According to the media report, the main objective of the national roaming service trial is to encourage the sharing of network resources among operators.
Upon approval, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice President of NCC, said the service will lead to Operational Expense Optimization (OPEX) and Capital Expenditure Efficiencies (CAPEX).
Specifying the benefits of the approval, Danbatta said: “The successful implementation of the trial will allow EMTS subscribers to access the MTN network service in the national roaming trial geographic area without the need for a SIM card (MTN subscriber identification module), as for MTN subscribers ”.
