NBC Universal and Reliance’s JioCinema sign a content streaming agreement

India’s Reliance Industries Ltd runs the streaming service JioCinema. On Monday, the two companies announced that they had teamed up with NBC Universal Media to add more Hollywood content to the service for Indian viewers. The companies said in a joint statement that premium JioCinema users will be able to watch popular shows like “Downton Abbey,” “Suits,” and “The Office” because of the multi-year deal.

This comes after JioCinema signed a streaming deal with Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. in April for shows like “Succession” and “Game of Thrones.” JioCinema changed from a free content model to a premium pricing model earlier this month. This was done to compete with companies like Netflix and Disney in the streaming content market.
