One of 1999’s top PlayStation 1 games is a surprise for PlayStation Plus subscribers

Some PlayStation Plus subscribers get “free” access to one of the best PS1 games of 1999, courtesy of PS Plus Premium. If you’re a PS Plus Essential or PS Plus Extra member, you’re out of luck and Unfortunately classic PlayStation games are limited to PS Plus Premium. In other words, if you want access to a growing and evolving library of PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games, you’ll need to buy the most expensive version of PS Plus. For the month of March, PS Plus Premium subscribers will get two PSP games, Ape Academy 2 and Siphon Filter: Dark Mirror, on March 21st, and one PS1 game, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, on March 21st.

If you were a PSP junkie back then, these two additions might be the most notable, but for most people, the big PS Plus premium game of the month is R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, definitely Ridge Racer. The best game in the series and Best Game of 1999. As you may remember, it had a Metacritic score of 88 when it was released in 1999. How long will the game hold up in 2023? It’s not great, but there’s certainly a lot of nostalgia to draw from it.

R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 was developed and published by Namco. It first appeared in Japan in 1998, but did not appear in the West until 1999. The fourth installment in the series and last for PS1, he was re-released via PSN in 2011. This gave PS3, PSP and PS Vita owners a chance to reinterpret the classic. And he said, starting March 21st, PS4 and PS5 players will be in for a blast just like in the past.
