Whether or not Microsoft is trying to quell talk of the stagnation of its beloved platform, it certainly piqued the interest of the folks at Ignite 2021.
In a candid chat with Microsoft Corporate VP & Product Manager, Roanne Sones, Chief Product Officer Panos Panay made some interesting, albeit brief, comments about the future of the platform, saying that “the future of Windows is incredible, which we are definitely bringing to the table.”
We don’t know exactly what Panay meant when he said “the next generation of Windows.” But we do know that Microsoft has at least a few things in the works for the platform.
Noted Microsoft leaker WalkingCat has tweeted that Microsoft is getting ready to implement what it calls “the new Windows” in the near future, perhaps in the next few months. That could be either the long-awaited Windows 10X or possibly Sun Valley, the next Windows 10 update.
Sun Valley is reportedly coming soon and could come with a massive redesign of the user interface, among other things. Meanwhile, Windows 10X’s release date is rumored to be in the spring of 2021.
Or it could be something completely different and much more closely related to Panay’s “next generation of Windows.” Whatever Microsoft has in store, it will be a busy year of innovations for the platform in any case.
