Today Reddit presents its own polling tool. Polls are very popular with Reddit. Around 15,000 new surveys are created every month. So far, however, they have been hosted by third-party websites. With this update, Reddit makes polls a native option for all communities (except plain text communities like r / AskReddit).

Creating a survey is now as easy as visiting a community and choosing “Create One”. You’ll see the new Surveys tab, and you’ll be asked to ask a question and name up to six answers. If you want to respond to a survey, you no longer need to create a message to participate. The Surveys tab is turned on by default, but moderates can turn it off if they want.

During the pilot tests, Reddit asked everything from classic questions like “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” To whom the SuperBowl will win – more than 9,000 users answered in r / NFL. Polls were also tested in communities ranging from r / PS4 and r / Premier League to r / Knitting.

“Our hope at the start of the surveys is to provide new users with a simple entry point by removing the barrier and giving people the opportunity to easily vote and contribute to their favorite communities,” said Tyler Swartz, Senior Product Manager at Reddit. “In addition, users have the opportunity to comment on a survey and we are pleased that the animated conversation is taking place.”
