Soccer-European Super League would destroy Premier League: Wenger

In this news, we discuss the Soccer-European Super League would destroy Premier League: Wenger.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said the main reason clubs on the continent want to create a new European Super League is because they cannot compete financially with their Premier League rivals. Manchester United and Liverpool are said to be in talks to create a new $ 6 billion separatist tournament that would feature up to 18 clubs from Europe’s top five leagues.

The founding members aim to launch the tournament in 2022 and Josep Maria Bartomeu, who stepped down as Barcelona president on Tuesday, said the La Liga club have already accepted a membership offer. But Wenger, now FIFA’s global development manager, said the plans were aimed at eroding the Premier League’s “superiority”.

“The other leagues have tried to destroy the advantage of the Premier League. For them, the best way to tame it is to create a European League, ”he told the Guardian. “It basically means destroying the Premier League.”

A Super League would see Europe’s top teams compete against each other more regularly, but Wenger said the real beneficiaries would be the club owners. “We are in a period of owners who are investors,” Wenger added. “Their first goal is to make more money. And maybe the European Super League is a way to make more money.
