Sussex County officials have finalized plans to hold public hearings on land use applications in a larger venue to allow for more participation.
The first of the Countesite session will be a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, in room 540 of the Carter Partnership Center at Delaware Technical Community College on Route 9 in Georgetown.
Due to attendance restrictions under the COVID-19 state of emergency, the county meeting place in the Circle administration building in Georgetown is limited to 30 people. For this reason, 15 to 20 land use requests have been suspended, county administrator Todd Lawson said at the county council meeting on January 12. “We’re busier than ever,” he says. “We want to evolve these land use applications.
Although land use claims have been planned and voted on for the past nine months, overdue claims have the potential to draw larger crowds.
