West Virginia will look to add to the momentum it gained after a lengthy layoff when it hosts Texas Tech at 9 pm. Monday EST at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

# 14 West Virginia returned from two weeks off due to COVID-19 concerns to claim a 69-47 victory in Kansas State on Saturday. The climbers improved to 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten with their second win in three games.

# 12 Texas Tech will also come back from a layoff, as the Red Raiders will play for the first time in nine days after having two games postponed last week. They are 11-4 and 4-3.

Defense Sparks WVU Back

The defense won the day for West Virginia in Kansas State, allowing the Mountaineers to cover the 11-point lead.

West Virginia forced Kansas State to 28 turnovers, the most by a Big 12 team this season, and turned them into 26 points. The Wildcats also shot just 38.1%.

Sophomore guard Miles McBride sparked the defensive effort with four of West Virginia’s 13 flights. He also scored a game-high 18 points.

It continued a great season for McBride, the Mountaineers’ top scorer with a 15.3 point a game average. He also averages 4.1 assists and 1.9 steals.

Freshman Jalen Bridges added 12 points, just his second double-digit time this season. Senior guard Taz Sherman finished with 10 points.

Sherman is averaging 12.2 points a game and 90.2% shooting on free throw attempts. He’s one of four West Virginia players shooting at least 83% from the line with junior guard Sean McNeil (90.0%), junior forward Emmitt Matthews Jr. (83.9%) and McBride. (83.0%).

Junior forward Derek Culver is often the only big one on the field now that second center Oscar Tshiewbe has moved to Kentucky. Culver was 13.4 GPA and leads the conference with 10.3 rebounds a game.
