Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to spend up to $ 28 billion this year to expand its technological lead and build a plant in Arizona to serve major US customers.
Capital spending for 2021 is targeted between $ 25 billion and $ 28 billion, up from $ 17.2 billion the previous year, CFO Wendell Huang said on a conference call. About 80% of the spend will be on advanced processor technologies – namely 3nm, 5nm, and 7nm – suggesting that TSMC anticipates an increase in advanced chip manufacturing activities.
