Giant Uber has now added rickshaws to its list of transports on the app. The company announced Thursday that it is launching Uber electric rickshaws in Kolkata. Uber previously only dealt with taxis and cars, but this would be the first time it has added electric rickshaws to its platform. The company has revealed that it will deploy more than 500 electric rickshaws in Calcutta.
Uber aims to make it easier for commuters in Kolkata to travel short distances. Users can now see the option to book an e-rickshaw alongside the cars. With UberGo, Uber Premium, Uber Rentals, automatic users will now see UberToto. Services will be available at locations across Howrah, Barasat, Madhyamgram, Rajarhat and Salt Lake and others.
Kolkata is not the only state to benefit from this new Uber offer. Earlier in November, Uber launched e-rickshaw services in Delhi. The company had deployed more than 100 electric rickshaws on several sites from Delhi. Services across Delhi’s 26 metro stations such as Ashok Park Main, Dabri Mor, ESI Basaidarapur, Inderlok, Janakpuri East, Janakpuri West, Kanhaiya Nagar metro, Keshav Puram, Madipur, Mayapuri, Moti Nagar, Paschim Vihar East, Punjabi Bagh west, Rajouri Garden, Ramesh Nagar, Satguru Ram singh Marg, Shadipur, Shakurpur, Shastri Nagar, Shivaji Park, Subhash Nagar, Tagore Garden, Tilak Nagar, Uttam Nagar East, Uttam Nagar west and Kirti Nagar.
The aim is to make travel easier and more convenient for users who travel by metro. So if you have the Uber app you won’t have to wait for the rickshaws anymore, you can just book an e-rickshaw and reach your destination safely.

Uber said the launch was in line with its recently announced global commitment to make all journeys on its platform 100% emission-free by 2040 through zero-emission vehicles and the integration of public transport and micro -mobility.
