San Francisco: Yahoo has agreed to pay $50 million in damages and provide two years of free credit monitoring services to approximately 200 million people in the United States and Israel whose e-mail addresses and other personal information have been stolen as part of the greatest security breach in America history.

The restitution depends on the Federal Court’s approval of a settlement filed Monday night as part of a two-year lawsuit aimed at holding Yahoo liable for the digital burglaries that occurred in 2013 and 2014, but have not been disclosed before 2016.

About 3 billion Yahoo accounts have been hit by hackers, some of them linked to Russia by the FBI. The settlement reached in a San Francisco court covers about one billion accounts held by about 200 million people.
