Zalando seeks right fit with deal to buy body scanning startup

In this news, we discuss the Zalando seeks right fit with deal to buy body scanning startup.

Fashion retailer Zalando SE said on Friday it bought a body scanning company to help solve the biggest question for people who shop for clothes online: How do you know if they’re okay? Zalando has acquired Fision, a Zurich-based software company whose body scanning app includes a virtual dressing room to help shoppers easily determine if an item of clothing will be the right size for them.

The deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to help reduce the amount of clothes sent to buyers that are the wrong size, and in turn, less clothes will be returned. “Customers will receive sizing advice earlier in their relationship with Zalando,” said Stacia Carr, Zalando Engineering Manager – Size and Cut.

“At the same time, we can create a feedback loop between brands and consumers to build customer loyalty and, in the long run, reduce waste.”
