Like it or not, digital vaccine passes will soon be a reality. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this week announced plans for a ‘digital digital pass’ to revive the bloc’s traumatized tourism industry.
Israel has already implemented its program, which grants privileged access to gymnasiums, concerts and other venues to those vaccinated. Los Angeles refuses to allow children to return to school without a “health pass”. And increasingly desperate companies – especially in the airline industry – say they won’t welcome customers without one. Saga Holidays said all of its customers will need to show proof of vaccination before embarking on a cruise while Qantas expects passengers to do the same before boarding a plane.
