Christanine Brodis gathered her tax documents in February, including a 1099-G for state unemployment compensation and a W2-G for some gambling wins at MGM Grand Detroit, the only bright spot in a losing 2020 But now she’s looking at taxable income.
Brodis, 48, sent his forms to a tax preparer via encrypted email, spoke on the phone in his living room on a cold Saturday morning, and had his 1040 prepared remotely as part of COVID-19 precautions being taken now by the Accounting Assistance Company in the Detroit Metro.
Now she waits and wonders.
The Detroiter, who has been out of work during the pandemic, awaits a tax refund of more of $ 4,500 for 2020 via direct deposit.
