Bold expansions, lavish upgrades, and multi-year restorations: 2021 promises the reveal of several luxury hotels around the world as they emerge from ambitious transformation plans. Spring 2021 will mark the reopening after a three-year renovation – the most ambitious and comprehensive update in the hotel’s 110-year history. The Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz and the French designer duo Gilles & Boissier collaborated on the realization of a new design and a new range of installations, while preserving the Belle Epoque character of the building and retaining the original spirit created by Cesar Ritz. Reflecting the cultural role this hotel has held in Madrid over the years, the newly designed property incorporates the collaborative efforts of local artists, designers, artisans and brands. Upon reopening, the hotel’s 153 rooms, including 53 suites, will be joined by five restaurants and bars developed by renowned Spanish chef Quique Dacosta, the Palm Court with a signature glass dome, which has been restored after 80 years, new wellness facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, experience showers and a hammam, and an event area with large bay windows facing the Prado Museum. The new neo-classic designed bar aims to be a must-see for spirits aficionados with programming, collaborations and cocktails showcasing exciting ingredients, while the Lobby Cafe promises to provide a cozy nook centered around the grand staircase for casual dining and easy drinks. .
