The revival of minority companies could be ready this spring |  Local News

SALEM – City officials are developing a policy that will help give minority-run businesses a greater place at the table for the conduct of official city affairs.

Mayor Kim Driscoll announced the policy change during her State of the City address last week.

“We’re looking for ways that we as a community can break down any systemic inequalities that may exist,” said Driscoll, “and that includes everything from hiring practices to buying efforts.

Driscoll said the first part of the three-pronged effort – a business diversity directory – will likely take place by spring.

“Somerville and Cambridge, and maybe even Boston, have diversity directories so we have the opportunity to highlight minority-owned businesses in our communities,” Driscoll said. “We still have to live in the existing state…
