On January 20, MIT juniors and fraternal twins Malik and Miles George uploaded their first science video to their new TikTok account, @malikandmiles_. The video, a short joke about the complexity of the Krebs cycle, got 83 likes. The two wondered if they would join the ranks of popular science media figures like Hank Green and Bill Nye. Now, more a month later, they published more over 100 videos on a variety of scientific topics including genetics, photosynthesis, Covid-19 vaccines and physics.
They also gathered nearly 50,000 subscribers.
Their fan base ranges from college kids to professional scientists, and the brothers often answer questions about attending MIT, applying to college, and being black in STEM. In most of their videos, the brothers wear white coats embroidered with their names.
