Switch Mobility on Thursday announced plans to invest £300 million (over Rs 2.98 trillion) in the UK and India to develop a range of electric buses and light commercial vehicles. The company plans to create more than 4,000 skilled jobs in the UK and India as part of the investment, Switch Mobility said in a statement.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is visiting India, praised the company’s investment plans and praised Switch as an example of a company facilitating bilateral trade between the two countries. “We are committed to bringing the next generation of eco-friendly buses to the UK market and Switch Mobility is at the forefront of this revolution.
“With strong orders for around 600 buses and ambitious investment plans already in place, we are confident that we will be able to benefit from this growth. It has been specifically designed with you in mind and offers a range of up to 300km,” he added. Switch Mobility says its new technical center will be central to its global research and development team as part of its investment in the UK.
It brings jobs and skills and is a testament to our partnership in the industry of the future,” the statement said, citing Johnson. His visit to India coincided with the launch of the company’s new 12-meter electric bus for India and the announcement of a new technology center in the UK, the statement added. Switch Mobility chairman Dheeraj Hinduja said the pace of switching to electric vehicles for public and commercial transport has increased significantly since the company was founded over a year ago.
It will create over 130 skilled jobs and will be led by Chief Technology Officer Roger Blakey and focused on developing the next generation of vehicles for Switch.
