Pro-Trump supporters held a “Save America” rally on January 6. On that day, both houses of Congress met to count the electoral college ballots, which would confirm the election of Joe Biden as the next President of the United States.
The rally escalated when thousands of pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, killing five people, including a Capitol Hill police officer.
It also sparked calls for President Trump to step down or be impeached.
