University Health is looking for ways to vaccinate even more San Antonians in anticipation of an increased supply as the federal government moves closer to approval of a third COVID-19 vaccine.
Almost a third of the COVID-19 vaccines allocated to Bexar County have been distributed by University Health, with the majority given to residents of a rented space in the former Crossroads mall.
President and CEO George Hernandez said he was looking for a way to grow even if he made up for his appointments delayed by the winter storm.
“Even though we had this horrible weather last week, we were able to immunize people in Wonderland of the Americas two out of five days. And then we opened on Saturday to catch up on Monday, ”he told council members at a Bexar County Hospital District meeting on Tuesday evening.
Additional doses could arrive as the US Food and Drug Administration approximate to authorize the Johnson & Johnson. Once approved, the company says 100 million doses of its single-dose vaccine could be delivered by the end of June.
