Senate ditches dress code as Fetterman and others choose casual clothes
The Senate will no longer enforce a dress code on the Senate floor, As per the analysis by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. This change comes after Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has been unapologetically wearing shorts during his duties. The dress code change only applies to senators and not staff.
Critics express outrage at relaxed rules
Some formal members of the Senate have voiced their displeasure with the relaxed dress code rules. Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall called it a “sad day in the Senate” and argued that senators should maintain a certain level of decorum. Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine joked about wearing a bikini to the Senate floor in response to the changes.
Fetterman, who has been open about his clinical depression and stroke, said he will use the new dress code rules sparingly and not overuse them.
