Next Level Games, a Vancouver-based video game development company, is expected to be acquired by Nintendo. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close on March 1.
This acquisition should bring development expertise to Nintendo.
According to a statement released Tuesday by Nintendo, Next Level Games began exploring a sale when a number of its owner-managers determined that “the time has come for them” to do so. All of the shares of Next Level Games are currently owned by its owner-directors and employees.
Founded in 2002, Next Level Games specializes in the development of console video games. The company previously worked with Nintendo to develop software games for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch systems, including titles from the Luigi’s Mansion series, the “Mario Strikers” and “Punch-Out !!” games. In January 2014, Next Level Games announced that it would work exclusively with Nintendo.
