HANOI (Reuters) – A U.S. probe into Vietnam’s currency and timber could harm bilateral relations and negatively impression staff and individuals in both equally nations around the world, Vietnam explained on Friday, citing remarks by its trade minister to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
The Trump administration in late December named Vietnam a currency manipulator, a shift that firms stated could see the USTR impose tariffs on Vietnamese merchandise. It has also accused Vietnam of keeping away from tariffs by mislabelling items designed from Chinese timber.
“This investigation could result in quite a few unwanted effects, destruction bilateral relations, and have negative impacts on hundreds of corporations, and millions of staff and shoppers in Vietnam and the United States,” Vietnam’s trade ministry said in a assertion, paraphrasing remarks by minister Tran Tuan Anh in a phone dialogue with Robert Lighthizer on Thursday.
