HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – At a press conference on Saturday, the Virginia Department of Health announced that COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out at a steady pace statewide.
There is currently an average of 14040 doses administered to Virginians each week.
The state followed federal recommendations to expand eligibility for Phase 1B to include people 65 and older, as well as people with underlying illnesses.
Most of the Commonwealth is expected to be in Phase 1B by next week.
VDH Vaccine Coordinator Dr Danny TK Avula said Virginia received between 100,000 and 110,000 doses of the vaccine per week, but as of last week received more than 300,000 doses.
Dr Avula added that the state had heard mixed messages from the federal government on whether vaccine allocations would increase. Despite the increase in the number of people eligible to get the vaccine, the state may not see an increase in the number of vaccine doses it receives each week.
