WALLINGFORD – With its sixth release, independent filmmaker Michele Plunkett is shaping an apocalyptic storyline intended to reflect the pandemic and the consequences of the current political climate.
The premise of the sci-fi thriller “A Mother of No Destination” is that Earth is already on the verge of falling into the jaws of a black hole in a decade or so when astronomers discover an asteroid that will destroy Earth. Much sooner. The government is using mainstream media to keep the public in the shadows while the wealthy elite prepare to escape in a spaceship.
“My films are very political,” said Plunkett, the director of the film and owner of Plunkett Productions on North Colony Street.
She started out as a novelist, but moved on to the movies after a good friend introduced her to a freelance director. Plunkett, who also directs the scripts for his films, enjoys researching political issues.
The 90-minute film took about three months to make. Gloves, face masks and temperature controls were part of the process.
“I was very excited,” said lead actress Linda Rivera, who was originally named an extra. When the person who was supposed to play the lead gave up, they were done with the role.
In order for her to be immersed in the character, Plunkett would gladly attempt to anger the actress.
“I’m a very difficult director,” Plunkett said. “If I want you crazy and if I can’t get the anger I want, then I’m going to piss you off.” “
Rivera said it was “fun” to play the part and be on set with other team members.
“Michele is awesome. She’s a great producer and I can’t wait to make another movie with her, ”Rivera said.
The film’s budget was around $ 7,000.
“A Mother of No Destination”, released in collaboration with McGee Productions, will be released on March 22. The film will be available on multiple streaming platforms including Amazon Prime, iTunes, Apple TV, and possibly Hulu.
