Following a wave of lawsuits after a data violation that affected its 850 locations along the East Coast, Wawa could have to pay up to $ 9 million in gift cards and cash to people who used a debit or credit card at the fuel pump or inside a store between March 4, 2019 and December 12, 2019.
The nine plus months was the length of time that malware installed by hackers ran on Wawa computer systems, exposing cardholder names, card numbers, and expiration dates. The malware did not capture the PIN or CVV2 numbers, Wawa said.
