Sure International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness of prejudices and take action for gender equality.
In my broader field of global health, every aspect of the field is male dominated, and the lack of diversity is a real challenge to progress. In my area of tuberculosis research, our recent analysis of all the major tuberculosis price showed that individual fellows were most often men based in high-income countries. Less than a quarter of the individual winners were women.
These trends are reflected in awards and prizes in many areas of medicine and science. For example, women are strongly under-represented among nobel laureates in all disciplines.
