Twenty-four new business entities registered in Wayne County in March. In McDowell County, 10 businesses registered. Lincoln County saw seven new business registrations and Mason County registered 12 new businesses. Summers County led the state in the percentage of new business registration growth for the month with 14 new businesses, a 2.49 percent increase, according to Secretary of State Mac Warner. Wayne, McDowell, Lincoln and Mason counties also had notable growth during the month.

Two counties in the region posted negative numbers, Tyler County experienced a minus 1.61 percent change and Wetzel County posted a minus 2.63 percent change. Locally, Wirt County with 23 new businesses registered, posted a 7.8 percent increase in the 12-month period, followed by: Roane, 69 registered, 6.28 percent increase; Pleasants, 27 registered, 4.46 percent increase; Jackson, 132 registered, 4.03 percent increase; Calhoun, 31 registered, 3.95 percent increase; Ritchie, 41 registered, 0.93 percent increase; Wood, 376 registered, 0.27 percent increase.
