Apple’s design language has been copied by many other companies over the years, but one of the worst offenders has always been Xiaomi. With the new Xiaomi 13 flagship, the company has stayed true to its age-old strategy, relying on a design that could easily be mistaken for an iPhone at first glance. As ArsTechnica points out, the new Xiaomi 13 makes no attempt to hide where it draws its inspiration from.
The rear is the biggest differentiator between Apple’s latest iPhone design language and the Xiaomi 13. Xiaomi has opted for a soft-touch finish with a slightly rounded design, and Apple, of course, has gone with the flat glass design. Despite being ridiculed on a regular basis, Xiaomi has repeatedly been unashamed to replicate Apple’s designs.
The device features a 6.36-inch flat-edge display with a stainless steel finish. Even the device color used in most of Xiamoi’s press images is eerily similar to the Pacific Blue finish Apple used on the iPhone 13 Pro last year. The underside of the device has a USB-C port for charging, along with a SIM card tray and speaker. The back of the device has a square triple camera that resembles Apple’s design, but the “Leica” logo stands out.
For example, last year many were quick to point out that the Mi Pad 5 Pro shares many similarities with the iPad Pro. The company’s design has evolved much like Apple’s, and the company’s flagship smartphone of 2018 looks almost identical to the iPhone. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun admitted in an interview earlier this year that the company plans to create a “benchmark against Apple”.
Said in an interview that the high-end competition in his smartphone market is a matter of life and death. He said it was a waged “war”. should be considered. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi’s strategy of repeatedly replicating Apple’s designs will work in the long run.
