BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) – Replacement work on a section of road along Big Sur that collapsed in a recent storm is expected to begin Monday and is expected to continue through the summer, said officials.

“Highway 1 is an iconic road that connects travelers to small businesses on the central coast, and we are focused on catering trips to this section by early summer,” said Caltrans director. , Toks Omishakin, in a statement.

The work is expected to cost $ 11.5 million, the agency said. Approximately five miles of Highway 1 will be closed to all vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic during repairs.
