Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 review

The Air 2 Pro have surprisingly good sound for the price and features. They produce a full, easy listening sound, with plenty of deep bass.

With some premium features like wireless charging and a dedicated companion app, the Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2 are an excellent update over the original truly wireless headphones. They offer a well-balanced sound profile with a bit additional bass kick, but they should be plenty adaptable for most genres. They offer a great battery life for true wireless headphones and isolate a respectable amount of background noise.

Excellent headphones for use when exercising are the Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2. They feel fairly sturdy in your ear if you select the proper size silicone tip, and they should be able to handle the majority of exercises without falling out. They also boast a nice touch-sensitive control system and are quite comfy, allowing you to alter the music without removing your phone. Although we don’t test for it, they have an IPX5 rating for water and sweat resistance.

This review of the Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 prompts us to wonder where headphones and earbuds truly originated. They did not suddenly arrive. They have undergone several operational, functional, and design alterations. Certainly and for a very long time, earphones have served their role. They were first created from the earpiece that the earliest telephone operators used. Additionally, they were the sole means of hearing electrical audio signals up until the development of amplifiers.

Design

The Soundcore Liberty brand has been around for a while, but the initial iteration of earbuds had a rather flimsy appearance and feel. Given that such earbuds have an entry-level price tag, that is often acceptable. However, Soundcore increased both the physical quality of the device and the pricing when they introduced the second version. The earbuds have a similar design to a pair of Apple AirPods and come with an inch-long stem that hangs from your ears when you use them.

To provide a better fit, they also employ a circular rubber ear tip. The visual improvements Soundcore made on this second-gen, I actually really enjoy. The Liberty Air 2 is largely matte black, as opposed to extremely glossy plastic, with a lighter, almost metallic gray on the exterior of each earphone.

A small slit at the bottom of the stem and the primary driver aperture behind the gray rubber ear tip are the only areas where a little amount of red can be seen, giving these a considerably more expensive appearance than you might anticipate for the sub-$100 price tag. The entire package has a little more fascinating look thanks to the battery case’s matte gray finish.

Comfort

Comfortable enough is the Liberty Air 2. Depending on your pain level, you can wear the headphones for roughly an hour before becoming fatigued. After 45 minutes, those with sensitive hearing could lose interest. Some people discover that the big, spherical chamber somewhat presses the concha; this pressure increases with continued wear.

The AirPods Pro’s longer frame feels more comfortable and rests solidly on the ear, so I much enjoy how they fit. For those who have already lost their first set of AirPods down a sewer drain, the Liberty Air 2 may give them nightmares because it feels a little unsteady, especially when moving quickly. We initially assumed it was the tip size, so we experimented with various tips and had my fiance evaluate the buds for a day. we had to tweak the buds many times to get a temporary, secure fit, but she said the tips felt nice and didn’t drop off her ears.

Connectivity

In test bench 1.5, we now measure negative latency values, and we have adjusted our score curve in line with that. When there is a negative delay, the audio precedes the pictures. Prior to this test bench, when the result was negative, we assigned a score of 0ms. On the other hand, we measured -2ms on iOS and 8ms on Android using test bench 1.5. However, despite having a decent latency value (a desirable value is between -55ms and 150ms), these headphones nonetheless perform well.

Additionally, there shouldn’t be any audio or visual lag. However, to account for these modifications, the box’s score has been raised from 7.0 to 7.3. Truly wireless headphones that only support Bluetooth are the Anker Liberty Air 2. These headphones now support aptX, which is a good improvement over the original model.

They have significant latency when using the aptX codec, however on Android and iOS devices, they have considerably reduced latency, which is good if you prefer to stream video. However, various devices and apps handle latency compensation in different ways, so your experience may differ.

Noise Cancelling

Noise cancellation is another area where some highly inflated promises are made, similar to water resistance claims. Four microphones two on each earbud with cVc 8.0 noise cancelling uplink are included into these earbuds. The cVc 8.0 will undoubtedly have an impact on lowering outside noise, including the wind.

The upshot is that when you make a call, the external noise is minimized, but only by around 60% because it has been intended to focus on the relevant noises. However, to make sure that you are heard, maintain more than 90% of your voice in the front of the sound. There is no transparency feature or “awareness” mode on these earbuds.

This capability, which is most frequently found in more costly earbuds, enables you to hear both the music you’re playing and any calls you’re taking in addition to what’s going on around you. In other words, the noise cancelling will be fairly excellent if you have a decent fit. As a result, they won’t let much outside sound in when you are strolling down the street, for example, which might lead to issues.

Audio Performance

Due to the diamond-coated drivers and the company’s interaction with acclaimed record producers to develop distinct audio profiles, the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 audio quality sounds fantastic. The Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2 provides a well-balanced sound profile with a little bit of bass emphasis, but not too much.

Punchy bass and a slightly recessed mid-range characterize this track. The Liberty Air 2 earbuds upgrade to Bluetooth 5.0, which improves battery life and connection quality. The clear sound should be audible as long as you stay within a 10-meter radius. Depending on your preferences, you may adjust the sound or choose a pre-set sound profile from the companion app.

The Liberty Air 2’s revolutionary 4-mic system with cVc (clear voice capture) noise reduction technology, which can pick up vocals in quiet environments, produces excellent call sound quality. Throughout our use, we had no connectivity problems.

Call Performance

For phone calls, the Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2 are suitable. Their microphone will make your voice seem slightly muddled and lacking in definition, like most Bluetooth headphones do. The person on the other end of the line won’t be able to hear you in even moderately noisy situations because of their poor noise management. We are pleased with the caliber of their calls.

The major gain is in how effectively they function as a headset for taking calls, which outweighs the aesthetic upgrades and new charging options (adding wireless charging and switching to USB-C from micro-USB) (you can use the buds independently of each other, with only one in your ear at a time). With four microphones as opposed to the original Liberty Air’s two, this model offers stronger noise cancellation, so I had no trouble making calls from the busy streets of New York.

Battery and Charging

Anker estimates that a full charge will last for 7 hours. Realistically, it takes roughly 6.5 hours, and somewhat less when strong wifi streaming and high volume are taken into account. It’s 2 hours longer than the AirPods Pro and provides enough playtime to keep you occupied on weekly journeys to work (4.5 hours).

Although the firm claims on the product website that a 10-minute charge gives you 2 hours of gaming, rapid charging is not mentioned. The narrative holds up. Additionally, switching from micro-USB to USB-C ensures that the battery will charge more quickly than with the prior model.

Up to four more charges, or 28 hours, may be stored in the charging case. As a result, the Liberty Air 2’s case is placed above the AirPods Pro and alongside the Jabra Elite Active 75t (28 hours) (24 hours). Place the case on a Qi charging station to wirelessly recharge the earbuds if that would be more convenient for you.

Final Words

The Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 is among the finest wireless earbuds under $100 based only on audio quality. You receive clear, lively sound that you can customize with the Soundcore app’s EQ, presets, or unique listening mode. Call quality is equally satisfying because to Anker’s adaptive mic technology, which enables crystal-clear voice conversations and online chats.

The battery life is also longer than that of the AirPods Pro. Even while the design is an improvement over the original Soundcore Liberty’s scratch-fest, it won’t appeal to individuals who don’t like how the AirPods appear. The delicate cover of the charging case is another issue that has to be addressed because it increases the possibility of the buds being broken or lost.
