Unleash Chromebook potential with the IdeaPad 5i's fast processor, long battery, & stunning display - read our full review!

The Lenovo Chromebook 5i, which measures 13.3 inches and costs $409.99, is one of the largest Chromebooks in our lineup of reviews. It is only one inch smaller than the Acer Chromebook 317, which is the largest Chromebook we have reviewed. A powerful Intel Core i3 processor, a clear webcam, a large number of USB ports, and a quick Wi-Fi 6E connection are some of the features that this device offers.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Description

It was designed with families and students in mind. Despite the fact that it has a number of impressive features, the keyboard on the Chromebook is not completely satisfactory. On the other hand, the laptop’s display is so impressive that it makes up for this shortcoming, so it can be forgiven.

The Lenovo 5i Chromebook is deserving of our esteemed choice because it provides essential features without inflating the price to match its expansive screen size. This is especially true when taking into consideration the competitive price point of $409.99.

Design and Build Quality

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook has a design that is very similar to other Lenovo products. It looks simple and practical. The top cover is made of two-toned aluminium, and the bottom cover is made of plastic. It’s a bit on the heavy side at 4.17 pounds, which is noticeable in a market where there are lighter options. Its bigger size (356.5 x 253 x 19.9 mm) lets it fit more ports and speakers that fire up from the top. There is a headphone jack, a microSD card reader, and a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port on the left side.

There is a Kensington Nano Security Lock, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port on the right. The laptop has two-watt Waves MaxxAudio speakers above the keyboard. The sound quality is fine, but the bass may not be as strong as it could be. The fixed-focus 1080p front-facing camera is located above the screen and has a privacy shutter. The video quality is good enough for business calls. Taking the Chromebook and a 45W USB-C charger out of the box is a simple process.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Display

Beautiful screen on Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook makes watching more fun. Everything is evident on this Chromebook’s 13.3-inch brilliant screen. Full 4K resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) ensures excellent images and text, making it ideal for work, play, and surfing. The IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology improves colour reproduction and widens the viewing angle, keeping the picture clear. The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook’s display is stunning for video conferencing, streaming, and document editing. This makes it ideal for consumers who want a sleek, portable, high-quality viewing experience.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook has a great keyboard and trackpad that make using it more enjoyable. The keyboard has backlit, well-spaced keys that make typing easy and comfortable, making it great for long work or study sessions. The key travel is good, finding a good balance between being responsive and being quiet. Having dedicated Chrome OS keys also makes it easier to get things done.

Along with the great keyboard, the trackpad is large, responsive, and supports multi-touch gestures, which makes navigation easy. Its accuracy and smooth surface make for an easy-to-use interface that makes it simple to move between web pages and apps. The Concept Pad 5i Chromebook’s high-quality keyboard and trackpad work together to make it easy to use and fun to do computer work.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Software

When it comes to performance and features, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is hard to beat. With an Intel Core i3 processor, this Chromebook lets you do more than one thing at once without any problems, which makes you more productive. With 8 GB of RAM, it runs smoothly and quickly, making it easy to use a wide range of programmes. It uses the Chrome OS and gives you access to a huge collection of apps from the Chrome Web Store. It makes computing easier and safer.

One feature that stands out is its Anti Glare Coating, which cuts down on reflections and eye strain, making it perfect for long periods of use. The built-in graphics card makes sure that the images you see are good for both everyday tasks and watching films and TV shows. The Chromebook is efficient, and Chrome OS is simple and safe. This makes it a reliable companion for work or play, with an easy-to-use interface and quick access to Google’s suite of apps.

Gaming and Sound Quality

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook

While the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is mostly made for work and daily tasks, it does a good job of running games in the Chrome OS ecosystem. With Intel processors and Intel 4k graphics built in, it does a great job with casual games and browser-based games. It may not work as well with games that use a lot of graphics, though.

The IdeaPad 5i Chromebook has great sound quality, with loud and clear sound for a great multimedia experience. The laptop has advanced Dolby Audio technology that makes the sound better no matter what you’re doing, like gaming, streaming, or video calling. The two speakers are well-balanced and produce good sound, better than expected for a Chromebook. The IdeaPad 5i Chromebook isn’t specifically made for gaming, but it strikes a good balance between good gaming performance and great sound quality.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Performance

Because Chrome OS has its limits and Google wants ChromeBooks to be as cheap as possible, many of them don’t perform well. The IdeaPad 5i was no different. When I had fewer than 20 browser tabs open, the computer would often freeze. Sometimes it would be unusable for several minutes at a time, and I would have to force it to restart. Again, this is not a surprise since the ChromeBook only has 4GB of RAM. This is because the company wants to keep the price of ChromeBooks as low as possible.

What it is, though, makes me not want to use Chrome OS. I’ve seen the same thing happen on other cheap ChromeBooks as well, so it’s not just my experience. But if an operating system doesn’t work well on the hardware that it came with, that’s a problem that Google and manufacturers need to fix. There are higher-end ChromeBooks that are more useful and have more hardware, but they tend to cost more like Windows competing products or Android competing products. As soon as the idea of “Chrome is Cheaper” starts to work, it falls flat because the hardware requirements aren’t good enough.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Battery Life

Durable all-metal construction makes the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook last. Large 51Wh battery makes it stand out. With the Chromebook’s simple features, it lets you use it for long periods, even when undertaking demanding jobs. The keyboard, trackpad, and pointing device hardware make it easy and pleasant to operate. The full-size keyboard is wonderful, especially on an inexpensive tablet. Lenovo’s innovative chassis LED indicator shows battery life, which is wonderful. Hardware design and functionality meet expectations, with outstanding sound and reliable performance for Chromebook tasks.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook: Heat Factor

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook has a good heat management feature that makes it work better and give you a better experience. With smart thermal solutions built in, this Chromebook keeps the right operating temperature and doesn’t get too hot when used for long periods of time. Critical parts of the device stay within the recommended temperature ranges thanks to heat dissipation mechanisms that are placed in strategic places.

This not only keeps the internal hardware safe, but it also helps keep the performance stable, especially when tasks that use a lot of resources are being done. The heat function is meant to find a balance between keeping the environment comfortable for the Chromebook to work well and preventing discomfort when using it on your lap. Lenovo made sure that the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook would stay cool and comfortable for long periods of time, so users can expect to be able to work without any problems.

Pros

  • Sleek Design
  • Impressive Battery Life
  • Quick Boot-Up

Cons

  • Not Ideal for Resource-Intensive Tasks
  • Dependency on Google Services

Final Words

Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook combines performance and flexibility with a pleasant Chrome OS experience. Its elegant design and bright 14-inch screen make it attractive and usable. The Intel Core i5 processor allows you transition between tasks, and the long-lasting battery lets you work on the go. Due to its durability, storage capacity, and ease of use, it may be used for work and play. The lighted keyboard adds elegance while being functional. However, Windows application limitations may limit some users. The well-balanced IdeaPad 5i Chromebook performs well with Chrome OS and is ideal for fast workers.
