Yaber K2s review (2023) a budget-friendly 4K projector

The Yaber K2s is a top budget 4K projector, offering great performance and features at a low price.

Yaber made its name in the low-cost projector market, but its newest models seem to be aimed at a wider audience. We first saw the Ace K1 in March. Now we have the Yaber K2s, which promises brighter pictures than the Yaber Ace K1 at the same native resolution. It also has a lot of features, including built-in streaming and a 10W Dolby Audio speaker system. The K2s might be an even better buy with a few tweaks and extra features.

Yaber K2s: Description

With the Yaber K2s projector, you can stream movies directly from popular services, so you don’t have to deal with extra wires. But there are some problems you should know about before you rush out to buy it. Projectors are useful tools that can be used for both work and play. A projector can give you a big, clear screen whether you want to show your coworkers your ideas or watch a movie with your family. The Yaber K2s projector worked well and was of good quality during tests, but if you use Apple products, you might miss some of its features.

This projector has Dolby Audio, JBL Speakers, NFC sharing, Android and iOS mirroring, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. It is also Alexa-enabled. The K2s has an 800 ANSI Lumens lamp and a resolution of up to 4K UHD (4096×2160 pixels), which means the images are clear, bright, and crisp. It also has a powerful stereo 20W (10Wx2) speaker system built in by JBL and Dolby Audio. This gives you better sound for a movie night, gaming session, or presentation. The K2s can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker when it’s not being used as a projector.

Yaber K2s: Pricing and Availability

The Yaber K2s can be purchased from Amazon for $599.99, but the website sometimes also offers a coupon good for a $200 discount on the device.

Yaber K2s Specifications Table

While the K2s is a smart projector, it does not have built-in apps for Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. It also comes with a web browser, so you can use a big screen to browse the web.

Yaber K2s: Design

Yaber K2s

Simply put, the Yaber K2s look great. They are glossy black, have fabric on the sides and frame that contrasts with the black, and have a font that is bronze in colour. From the front, we can see the lens and the IR windows for communicating with remote controls. The lens has a magnetic cover that can keep it clean. The projector’s power button, volume rocker, silent night mode, Bluetooth speaker button, and NFC area are all on the top. You can connect to video sources through the ports on the back.

On the bottom, where the AndroidTV dongle is built in, things get interesting again. This can be taken off if desired. In this case, the maker has built in the HAKO mini mint Android TV 10 model, which is linked via microUSB. The stand has a push button that lets you change the height of the K2s. At 221 mm x 280 mm x 291 mm, the Yaber K2s is the right size—neither too big nor too small. It weighs 3.2 kg. A very high level of build quality means there is nothing bad to say about it.

Yaber K2s: Set Up

The K2s is pretty simple to set up, but only up to a point. It can focus automatically and make adjustments by flashing a checkerboard pattern on the screen and making changes. Setting up an Android TV is pretty easy, whether you do it step by step or use the “set up my device” feature on your Android phone to move your Wi-Fi settings and accounts over. Also, the streaming stick that comes with it works perfectly.

The software is based on a stock version of Android TV 10, and it works with most of the popular streaming apps, but not Channel 4, BBC iPlayer, Now TV, or Amazon Prime Video. When I say “Netflix,” I don’t mean a horrible version of the app that doesn’t work right or makes you use the D-pad on the remote as a mouse. This is the same Netflix app you’ve used on other streaming sticks or smart TVs. All of the apps worked perfectly during testing; they never crashed or took too long to load content. You can’t just take this for granted.

Yaber K2s: Features

Yaber K2s

If you turn on the Yaber K2S, it will go straight to its standard OS, which is the same as the Ace K1. This works with both Airplay and Miracast. To use Miracast, just touch an Android phone to the projector’s NFC tag. If you want to connect your phone or laptop wirelessly, these built-in features are helpful. But most people will be here for fun, which is where the Android TV dongle comes in. When you choose the dongle’s input, you’ll see the full Android TV interface, complete with big icons and a screen that’s easy to use with a remote.

Since this is a dongle and not a projector, Android TV works properly with Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Paramount+. There is neither NOW nor a UK catch-up service. Put a Fire TV Stick 4K Max in the back if you want more apps. The K2S automatically adjusts its picture to fit by using auto-keystone and autofocus. Some XGIMI projectors, like the Mogo 2 Pro, have fancy ways to avoid obstacles. This one doesn’t. With a 1.54:1 throw ratio, you’ll need 1.98m to get a 60-inch screen. Because of this, this projector isn’t great for small rooms.

Also, the projector tends to point down a bit, so it needs some height to hit the screen straight on. There are a few different kinds of extra features. You’ll need to use your own smart speaker with the K2s because it doesn’t have a built-in mic or voice recognition. Still, it’s helpful to be able to change sources or turn up the volume without having to reach for the remote. The NFC screencast lets you share content from your phone with just a tap, but only after you’ve downloaded the EShare app. From the comfort of your couch, you can cast the screen or share content. You can see it, but it’s not really necessary.

Image and Sound Quality

The Yaber K2s can play back 1080p videos at a top speed of 60 hertz. That’s with a 1.54:1 throw rate and a picture size range of 40 inches to 200 inches at its largest. But for the full size, the projector would need to be about 7 metres away from the wall. For the minimum size, it only needs to be about 1.4 metres. I couldn’t try out really big projections, though, because there wasn’t enough room.

Even when the room is dark, the colours are still bright, the contrasts are good, and the picture is clear all around. This is a good level for the K2s, with a brightness of 800 ANSI lumens. That way, you can enjoy movies, TV shows, and videos even if the room isn’t very bright. But during the day, there isn’t enough light, which makes the picture quality worse. The picture is dull and lacks contrast. That being said, this is completely normal for this price range.

Yaber has two 10-watt speakers built in that are tuned by JBL and work with Dolby Audio. When you think about how small the projector is, these sound very good and clear. The mids and highs are a little flat, but the quality is great for speakers that are built in. This is where speakers or a soundbar come in handy; they can be connected quickly and easily too. either wirelessly through Bluetooth or with a cord. Overall, the Yaber K2s is a great machine for making noise. You can also change between profiles (Standard, Movie, and Music) in the menu. Each profile has a small effect on the sound; for example, the mids sound a little better in Movie mode.

Yaber K2s: Pros and Cons

The Yaber K2s is good value for money. It is a good all-round projector that offers good picture quality, smart TV features and easy setup. It is a good option for anyone looking for a budget projector for home theater use.

Pros

  • Integrated apps for easy streaming
  • Decent image quality
  • Powerful Dolby Audio
  • Auto focus and auto keystone worked well

Cons

  • Not as flexible as rivals
  • Apple TV is not a featured app

Final Words

The Yaber K2s looks classy, has a high-quality finish, and works quickly, so you can use the smart features right away and without any problems. If the room is a little dark, the picture quality is still very good, and the beamer works very well for sound as well. It also has some great extra features, like being able to play content from a smartphone wirelessly. It’s a shame that you need an extra app to use the NFC screencast feature, but it’s not a huge problem.
