Bye-Bye Porn: Telecom Department Asks Internet Providers To Block 827 Porn Sites

The government has ordered Internet service providers to block 827 websites hosting pornographic content as a result of an order from the Uttarakhand High Court, according to official sources.

While the Uttarakhand High Court has requested the blocking of 857 websites, the Ministry of Electronics and Computer (Meity) has found 30 portals without pornographic content.

Meity has asked the Telecommunications Department (DoT) to block 827 websites named in the list published as part of the order, sources said.

“… all internet service licensees are instructed to immediately take the necessary steps to block 827 websites, according to Meity’s instructions and to comply with the decision of the Supreme High Court,”

said the telecommunications department in an order made to Internet service providers.

The decision of the High Court was rendered on September 27, 2018, and received by Meity on October 8.

Meity informed the DoT that Uttarakhand High Court had ordered the blocking of 857 websites contained in an old DoT notice dated July 31, 2015.
