LG C3 vs LG C2: Which one should you buy?

The LG C3 OLED and LG C2 OLED are both very similar TVs, but the C3 is just a little bit better than the C2. The C3 is a little brighter, but this doesn’t make a difference in real life. The C3 also has better low-resolution sharpness processing, which makes old material on DVDs or low-resolution online streaming look better than on the C2. The biggest difference between the C3 and the C2 is that the C3 supports DTS audio files. This makes it a much more interesting TV for fans of home entertainment, since Blu-rays and DVDs usually have DTS audio tracks.

As the new TVs start to come out, the ones from last year go on sale. The LG C3 OLED, which just came out, is already in the running for best TV of the year. However, its sibling, the LG C2, is on sale for prices that are almost too good to be true. If you’re already looking for a top-of-the-line TV like the C3, you might be thinking if the extra cost is worth it or if the discounted C2 is a smart way to get most of the C3’s benefits for a much lower price. Luckily, we’ve put each model through a lot of tests. Here’s how the price and picture quality of the C3 and C2 differ.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Pricing

There are six sizes of the C3 that range from 42 to 83 inches. The most popular size, 55 inches, costs $1,900, but you can often find it for less than $1,500. The smallest size in the line costs $1,400. As was already said, the LG C2 has been marked down a lot since it came out a year ago. Because of this, you can expect each size to be hundreds less than the MSRPs stated.

The same sizes are offered for the C2 as for the C3. At the moment, you can buy the 55-inch model for just under $1,200 and the 48-inch model for just under $900. It can’t be said enough: With sizes that are all the same, the C2’s lower prices put it over the top. It’s just a better choice for people who want to save money. But keep an eye on the C3 because it is still being sold.

LG C3 vs LG C2 Comparison Table

LG’s C3 and C2 TVs have some of the most up-to-date features. The C3 has a better screen and better sound, while the C2 has a good performance and a lot of smart features. Both models cater to different tastes, making sure that viewers of all kinds can enjoy a good watching experience.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Design

LG C3 vs LG C2

From the outside, the two TVs look very much alike. All sizes over 42 inches have a narrow stand, while the 42-inch size has feet that fit on a desk. This makes them look beautiful and, more importantly, makes it easy to put them on a TV cabinet. Both are very thin, except for the part that holds the cables, hardware for processing, and speakers.

But you can only see that part if you look at the TV from the side. And if you do that, we suggest you change the way the seats are set up. Both are also very light. Honestly, you won’t really notice that until you get it home from the store or take it out of the box. But even though they are easy to weigh, they feel very well made.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Screen Quality

The LG C3 OLED has the same OLED Evo panel as the LG C2 OLED, so the brightness is about the same. Compared to the C1 line, the C2 line was 20% brighter, so the C3 will also be 20% brighter than the C1. When it comes to processing, the C3 has an Alpha a9 Gen6 chip, which is better than the Alpha a9 Gen 5 chip in the C2. This year’s OLED range pushes the new panels a little bit more. In our review of the LG C3, we did mention that the Alpha 9 Gen6 chip has OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which makes the C3 even better.

LG’s most sharp-eyed fans should like the C3 OLED’s new algorithm, which is supposed to make it easier to tell the difference between an image’s center and background by making key areas look brighter. As with all of LG’s most recent OLED lines, the C2 will still have perfect contrast and blacks that go on forever. Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos are both supported, and 1080p pictures should still look great thanks to LG’s usually great upscaling.

The C3’s homepage is more responsive and its user accounts are better and easier to change. This is a bigger difference between the two panels. When you first turn on the C3, the TV can walk you through a custom picture preset to make sure the basic settings are to your liking, if you want. It’s a change that makes sense and makes it easier to choose a picture preset in the advanced settings menu. Switching between settings is also much easier with the new software.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Audio Performance

LG C3 vs LG C2

When it comes to sound, the two OLED ranges have more or less the same speaker setup. The C3 still has the 2.2-channel, 40W speaker from the C2. Even though the company says the C3 has “virtual 9.1.2 surround sound” thanks to the panel’s AI Sound Pro technology, we’ve found that the best soundbars still beat the C3’s speakers. If you don’t have a soundbar, however, the sound is better than on older models.

The LG C3’s new Alpha 9 Gen 6 chip helps improve the sound. The TV also has a WOW Orchestra sound feature that makes bass sounds and loud bangs like explosions sound better. This function helps match the sound from the TV’s speaker to the sound from an LG soundbar that is connected to the TV. To enjoy the better sound effects, users must buy a 2023 LG speaker that works with the TV.

The C3 has LG’s new Wow Orchestra technology. When used with a compatible soundbar, the TV will combine its own speakers with the soundbar, rather than letting the soundbar take over, and it will use an AI engine to balance the two in the best way. LG will, of course, make these soundbars that work with other devices.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Features

The C3 has a new Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor, which is a step up from the C2’s Gen 5 processor. This gives the C3 some new features that make the pictures look better. These are AI Super Upscaling Pro (which upscales sub-4K sources while reducing noise and keeping intentional film grain), OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro (which breaks the image into more “zones” for separate HDR optimization), Object Enhancer (which sharpens foreground characters and props), and HDR Expression Enhancer (which applies specific tone-mapping to those foreground elements).

The Gen 6 can also up-mix all sound types to 9.1.2 virtual channels, which is more than the C2, which could only do 7.1.2. It also has a new Auto Balance Control tool that tries to keep some frequencies from being drowned out by others. For example, if the bass gets louder, midrange voices won’t get lost. The working system also has a new version. Even though webOS 23 looks a lot like webOS 22, it has been simplified. It now only has two pages and a new folder system, which makes it faster. You now have a sub-choice for sounds in the Game Optimiser menu as well. Aside from that, nothing has changed, which isn’t a bad thing. The C3 has a few more features than the C2 because the operating system and engine have been tweaked a little bit.

LG C3 vs LG C2: Performance

Both TVs have the picture-perfect black levels we’ve come to expect from OLED screens. They also have rich, accurate colors and smooth motion handling to go along with this amazing contrast. Like all OLED TVs, the C3 and C2 look good even when you’re not looking straight at them. When viewed off-axis, white and lighter gray tones tend to change into a light pink color. The effect is small, and there is no other color change besides this one.

Technically, the C3 is slightly better than the C2 in terms of performance, but the changes are small. The C3 covers more of the HDR color range (DCI-P3) than the C2, but the difference is only 1%. The C3 also gets a little bit brighter than the C2. When put next to each other, the C3’s extra brightness only shows up as small, bright spots, like the way sunshine bounces off the surface of water.

LG C3: Pros and Cons

  • Even, real-looking picture quality
  • Perfect game specs
  • Very easy to use.

  • Only a minor upgrade
  • Pricier than the C2
  • Sony rival performs better

LG C2: Pros and Cons

  • Bright and bold, but still realistic.
  • Unbeatable specs for games
  • Interesting sound

  • Slight bass rattle
  • Bettered for motion

LG C3 vs LG C2: which one should you consider?

Both the C2 and C3 are fantastic pieces of television equipment. The C3 is superior to the other model, but not by a wide margin, and certainly not for the price that LG is asking for it at the moment.

As we have mentioned in the past, you should not hesitate to purchase the C3 if you discover it for less than £100 more than the price of the C2. But other than that, the C2 will serve you well, provided that you do not require the most recent and cutting-edge technology that LG can provide in a device at a more affordable price point.

Is the C3 worth it over the C2?

LG’s OLED TVs have always done well in this area(picture), and the C3 is better than last year’s C2 because it has more processing tools. But like the TV as a whole, it’s not a huge step up from what came before.

What is the difference between a C2 and a C3 LG TV?

Because Blu-rays and DVDs typically use DTS for its audio tracks, the C3 is a lot more appealing television for people who are interested in home entertainment because it supports the DTS audio format.
