It’s mostly made of plastic, and there’s a metal grille that covers the front and the sides of the bar. The subwoofer is also embedded in the bar, and the port is visible on the back.

It has an exciting V-shaped sound profile that suits a variety of audio content. While there’s no thump and rumble in its deep bass, there’s a bass adjustment feature so you can tweak the sound to your liking. However, there is no EQ or room correction function, which is a bit disappointing. The bar also doesn’t support Atmos. On the downside, you can expand this setup later, as the manufacturer sells a bass module subwoofer and satellites separately.
It has a decent stereo frequency response. It has a slightly V-shaped sound profile that adds a bit more punch to the bass range while making vocals and lead instruments bright and sparkling. Unfortunately, it lacks deep bass, so you don’t feel the deep rumble and rumble of bass-heavy music and action-packed movies. Bass and treble adjustments are also available if you want to customize the sound.
Bose Smart Soundbar 700
The Bose Soundbar 700 houses all of its physical ports in two recessed areas on its underside, but in another design flaw, there’s limited space to actually connect the various cables. However, to Bose’s credit, there are at least optical and HDMI cables included in the box. The physical connections are mixed, and in a recess there is an HDMI port, an optical digital input, an Ethernet port and a micro-USB port for service.
The other recess houses the socket for the power cable and four 3.5mm sockets for the subwoofer, data, IR extender and the ADAPTiQ headset. Considering the price, it’s surprising that there are no HDMI inputs, just a single output. The good news is that it supports eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), so you can send lossless audio from your TV back to the soundbar. Provided, of course, that your TV also supports eARC.
Bose Smart Soundbar 900
The Smart Soundbar 900 is easy to set up. First, connect it to your TV via HDMI or optical digital. Then launch the Bose Music app and follow the instructions. You need a Bose Music account to use the app. The soundbar comes with an Adaptiq headset for automatic room correction. Don’t worry about how silly you’ll feel wearing the headset – it’s worth the effort.
You sit in five different places in the room while the speaker emits sounds. This allows speaker levels to be optimized for your room. Beyond automatic room correction, the app gives you a lot of manual control over levels. You can boost dialogue or turn up the center speaker volume if you need even louder voices. You can also adjust the height speaker level. It doesn’t have any other sound modes, but you can increase or lower bass and treble levels.
Bose Soundbar 500
The Bose Soundbar 500 is a good soundbar when used alone without the separate sub and back satellites. It doesn’t get as loud as other soundbars, but its sound profile is fairly balanced and neutral-sounding. However, some may feel that this bar lacks sub-bass. Aside from not being able to get very loud, it struggles at maximum volume and heavily compresses, especially in the bass range.
The top is made of solid plastic and has two touch-sensitive buttons on the left. The front and sides are surrounded by a metal grille. The overall feel of the bar is very good. The bar isn’t too wide and you should be able to fit it between the legs of the stand of most 55″ TVs. It’s not very large and you shouldn’t have any problems with it blocking the view of your screen unless you have a TV that sits flush on the table.
