Anycubic Photon Mono M5s review (2023) an amazing machine

The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s is a great machine with a high level of detail and a lot of room to build.

Anycubic’s new Photon Mono M5s is a medium-sized resin 3D printer that is smarter, faster, and full of 12K pixels. Yes, that’s a huge 11,530 pixels on the X axis. Anycubic also says it can print at an average speed of 105 mm/hour, which is three times faster than regular printers. During tests, the machine made a figure that was 3.5 inches tall in less than an hour. It’s the first self-leveling resin printer we have seen. It uses sensors and hidden springs to figure out where it needs to be. Anyone who has ever set up a resin printer with an Allen key and a piece of paper knows that this is a pretty amazing feature.

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s: Description

Anycubic made a special, very thin, high-speed resin for this printer that works well with it. But even if you only use regular resin, the special release film on the bottom of the vat will let you print very quickly. The film is also fragile, so it won’t last as long as regular FEP, only about 30,000 layers. For comparison, my Rocket test print has 1742 layers, which means that six rounds of testing may have used up a third of the film’s life. Anycubic says that the new film will cost $42 each and come on a frame that is easy to put together.

You could switch back to cheaper films, but you would have to print at a slower, less stressful speed. The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s comes with everything you need to start printing as soon as you take it out of the box. You get a metal scraper for the build plate, a plastic scraper for the release film, a large screen protector, paper funnels, disposable gloves, disposable masks, a set of Allen keys, a power cord with an adapter, and a printed manual. Also in the box are a USB drive with Anycubic’s Photon Workshop slicing software already installed, a PDF of the manual, and two test prints that have already been sliced.

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s: Design

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s review

The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s is a sleek and small 3D printer that uses LCD-based MSLA (Masked Stereolithography) technology to bring your digital designs to life. It was made with efficiency and accuracy in mind, and it has a remarkable build volume of 130mm (L) x 80mm (W) x 165mm (H), which lets you make models with a lot of detail. With a layer resolution of 0.01 to 0.2 mm and an XY resolution of 0.051 mm, the printer can make high-quality prints with smooth surfaces and fine details.

The Photon Mono M5s has a 405nm LED light source that gives it great curing performance. This lets it print faster than traditional resin-based 3D printers. The printer can print up to 30 mm per hour, which makes production quick and easy. It works with different UV resins that have a wavelength of 405nm. This gives you a wide range of materials to choose from for your projects.

The printer has an easy-to-use 4.3-inch color touch screen interface that makes it simple to move around and control. It has many ways to connect, like USB and Wi-Fi, so you can transfer your print files in a variety of ways. From your computer or phone, you can easily control and keep an eye on the printing process.

With the Anycubic Photon Workshop as its dedicated slicing software, you can quickly prepare your models for printing by making adjustments, adding supports, and optimizing the print settings. The printer works with standard file formats like STL, OBJ, and AMF, so it can be used with many different 3D design programs. The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s is made to work with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, so it can be used by a large number of people. It works with an AC power supply of 100-240V 50/60Hz, which makes sure that the printing process is stable and reliable. The printer has a small footprint, measuring 230mm (L) x 200mm (W) x 360mm (H). Even though it is small, the 6.7 kg structure is strong and long-lasting.

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s: Features

We think the new Anycubic Photon Mono M5s is unique because it doesn’t need to be manually leveled, it has a self-checking system, and it has a new type of vat film that is meant to improve high-speed performance. The Photon Mono M5s is different from every other resin 3D printer we have tried because it doesn’t need to be leveled. Anycubic seems to be able to keep tolerances tight enough that they don’t need to be adjusted, and the Z height is set by force sensors in the printer. The user just needs to turn the big knob once to attach the build plate, and then they can start printing.

we wasn’t sure about this at first, but it worked out fine. The printer can also do some basic checks for common places where things go wrong. It can find problems with the exposure screen’s connection, problems with how the motor works, and the amount of resin in the vat. If any of these checks don’t work, the user will be told. But not everything is checked by this system. A few of my prints didn’t work, but the printer didn’t notice. Here’s more about that.

Automatic Build Platform Leveling

Beginners may find it hard to level the build platform because the platform must be perfectly flat with the LCD screen and resin vat film for the offset to be the same everywhere. Most resin printers, like the Anycubic Photon M3 Plus or the Elegoo Mars 3 Pro, use a multi-bolt leveling system to set the position of the platform. This can be a time-consuming and difficult task. If the build platform isn’t level, it will be hard for parts to stick together, they won’t be the right size, and the fragile LCD screen could be damaged.

Anycubic has fixed this by adding a mechanical sensor to the Photon Mono M5s’s cantilevered arm. This sensor can tell when a print starts whether or not the platform is level. In theory, you shouldn’t have to do any manual leveling with this sensor, and the Photon Mono M5s doesn’t even let you make any fine-tune adjustments by hand. This is similar to how printing works on filament-based printers like the Prusa MK3s, which level the build platform automatically and don’t need fine adjustments other than the occasional live-Z adjustment. During testing, this feature worked perfectly, and I didn’t have to make any calibration changes.

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s: Performance

Anycubic Photon Mono M5s review

The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s works very well, so you can make 3D prints that are accurate and of high quality. With its LCD-based MSLA technology, it has a layer resolution of 0.01 to 0.2 mm, which lets it make models with a lot of small details. The XY resolution of 0.051mm makes sure that printing is smooth and accurate, capturing all the small details of your designs. With a 405nm LED light source, the printer has great curing performance, which means it can print things faster than traditional 3D printers that use resin. The curing process is quick and reliable, so your prints will all look the same and be reliable.

The printer can print up to 30 mm per hour, so you can make your models quickly and easily. The Photon Mono M5s strikes a good balance between speed and quality, giving you consistent and impressive results whether you’re working on small, detailed objects or large prints. Also, the build volume of the Photon Mono M5s is 130mm (L) x 80mm (W) x 165mm (H), giving you plenty of room for your creations. This lets you try out different ideas for designs and print larger models without sacrificing quality or detail.

The printing process is made easier by the user-friendly interface, which has a 4.3-inch color touch screen. It’s easy to find your way around the printer’s settings, change the parameters, and check on the progress of your prints. Having multiple ways to connect, like USB and Wi-Fi, increases convenience and flexibility. It makes it easy to send print files and control the printing process from a distance.

Final Words

This resin 3D printer is a sure thing because it uses cutting-edge technology and always makes great prints. The Anycubic Photon Mono M5s is a good investment whether you are a beginner or an expert. It’s now my go-to machine instead of the 8K Mono M3, and I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.

FAQs

Is Anycubic a good 3D printer?

It is the PLA printer that everyone at All3DP uses. Thanks to the Anycubic Ultrabase print bed, the prints stick well to the build plate while they are being made and are easy to remove. If you change a few things and go for “extra fine” print quality, the results are simply stunning.

Is Anycubic Photon Mono 4K good for miniatures?

Because the LCD is black and white, layers dry faster, and the 400:1 contrast ratio makes for sharper prints. The print size is good for a resin printer, and it lets you print more than just miniatures when you need to.
