How to Install Discord on Kali Linux

Hello everyone, today in this article we will show you how to install Discord on Kali Linux. Discord is the most popular text messaging application, created with gamers in mind. But it soon gained so much popularity that even developers started using it for their communities, and many Open Source organizations also started to like it. Today it has replaced Slack in many areas.

Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution run by offensive security. Mati Aharoni and Devo Kearns developed Kali Linux. It was designed primarily for penetration testers, network analysts or, in other words, those working in the field of computer security and analysis. Kali.org is the official website for Kali Linux. Discord’s Linux client was first released in 2017, but it does not provide many instructions on how to install it. The client is offered only as an archive for manual installation or as a .deb package that works only with Debian-based Linux distributions (such as Ubuntu and Linux Mint). However, several options are available to install it on the system.

How to Install Discord on Kali Linux Using GDebi

Step 1: Open terminal Ctrl+Alt+T and download the latest version of Discord.deb from official website:

wget -O ~/Downloads/discord.deb “https://discordapp.com/api/download?platform=linux&format=deb”

Step 2: Install gdebi, which is packet manager for Debian/Ubuntu OS:

sudo apt install gdebi -y

Step 3: Install your Discord.deb file using gdebi:

sudo gdebi install /your/path/to/Discord.deb

Step 4: Open your Discord from menu or command line:

locate Discord | grep ‘/Discord’/usr/share/discord/Discord

Step 5: That’s it, your Discord can now work for you.

If you find difficult to install Discord via gdebi, might be because of libappindicator1 missing package, that is because the libappindicator has been removed from Kali Rolling since 19–01–2021.

Step 6: From here we can try to force the installation and check if Discord is working:

sudo dpkg -i –force-depends ~/Downloads/Discord.deb

Step 7: and then run:

apt-get install -f

Step 8: To fix broken dependencies in place.

Step 9: Or try to install libappindicator1 directly from Debian repo:
