Opera GX vs Opera 2024: review, features, pros and cons

The Opera browser has been around for more than 20 years, and it has changed in many ways over that time. It is now available on almost every desktop and mobile platform, and Opera released Opera GX, a new browser, a couple of years ago. Opera GX is similar to the regular version of Opera, but it has some extra features that gamers might like. In today’s guide, we’ll look at how Opera GX compares to Opera.

You can also check out our detailed review of Opera GX. Opera is one of the oldest browsers available, and it is also one of the best. It has things like a VPN and an ad-blocker built right in. The company does, however, also make Opera GX, which they call a “Gaming Browser.” In this article, we’ll compare Opera GX and Opera to help you decide which one to use and why.

Opera GX vs Opera Interface

Opera GX vs Opera

Opera’s interface is clean and easy to use, and it is designed to be as simple as possible. It has a sidebar that lets the user get to some of their favorite sites, like Instagram, Facebook, etc. Along with it, you get a lot of ways to change how the UI looks so that it fits your needs. You can choose between Dark Mode and Light Mode, choose your own wallpaper, change your favorite tabs and websites, and so on.

Also, the UI doesn’t put a lot of strain on the GPU, which makes the game run more smoothly. Opera GX, on the other hand, takes some ideas from video games. And if you don’t know how they use RGB, dark themes (you can choose a light theme if you want), and a lot of neon colors, it can be a bit confusing.

Opera GX vs Opera Privacy Protection

Opera comes with an ad blocker, so turn it on if you don’t want to deal with ads anymore. Tracking protection is another feature you can use to get rid of cookies that some websites use to track you.

Opera GX vs Opera Gaming Features

Opera GX vs Opera

Opera GX’s main goal is to let you find out how much RAM and processing power it can use. For example, the integrated system resource controls will help if you want to use your browser while playing video games. When you click the GX Control option in the sidebar, a pane with two options, RAM Limiter and CPU Limiter, appears. The first one lets you control how much RAM Opera GX can use.

On the other hand, the CPU Limiter lets you limit how much processing power the browser can use at any one time. Using the slider, you can set limits when the CPU is being used at 25%, 50%, or 75% of its total capacity.

Even though Windows is usually good at allocating resources, switching to Opera GX and using these controls should be fine if your PC has bad gaming performance when the regular Opera browser is running in the background. Twitch integration is another feature of Opera GX that helps gamers. Sign into your Twitch account, turn it on in the sidebar, and you’ll get notifications whenever a streamer goes live.

Opera GX: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Speedy browsing
  • Twitch and Discord integration
  • Built-in VPN and ad blocker
  • Desktop version syncs with mobile version

Cons

  • Distracting, gaudy visual design
  • Tough to quickly access some features

Opera: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Built-in ad blocker, VPN, and battery saver.
  • Fast performance.
  • Helpful Speed Dial start page.

Cons

  • Some sites balk at an unrecognized browser.
  • No reading mode or reading list.
  • Lacks social sharing tool.

Which one should you consider?

From the list of “Additional Features,” it’s pretty clear that Opera GX has a lot more to offer. It has a lot of cool and useful features, but only for a small group of people. If you’re a gamer in this group, Opera GX is what you need. But not everyone likes over-the-top animation and a style that looks like a video game. So, you should choose based on what you need.
