Durability, performance, and utility are all combined into a stunning RGB-filled design on the Vulcan II Max Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, which has lightning-fast TITAN II Optical switches. A configurable function layer with 24 dual LED smart keys to signal when secondary functions are enabled is unlocked by pressing the Easy-Shift [+]TMbutton. AIMO RGB lighting displays are also visible on the removable, transparent palm rest.
By cramming an excessive number of multicoloured LEDs into their peripherals, Roccat is pushing the boundaries of what is allowed for RGB. The newest addition to its lineup of gaming hardware is this enormous keyboard, which comes with a comfortable silicone palm rest that, yep, actually glows. In addition, its full-size appearance makes for an impressive and striking accessory. The sturdy keyboard has a gorgeous top plate made of aluminium that gives it a superb polish. Additionally, it aids in shielding the apparatus from damage.
Roccat Vulcan II Max review: Design
A full-size wired keyboard, the Vulcan II Max sports an anodized metal top plate and a thin, light plastic chassis. It is not the ideal keyboard if space is an issue because it measures 18.23 x 6.0625 inches (463 x 154mm) and has a 3.25-inch (82.6mm) detachable wrist rest. Our review unit was a white variant with a matte silver top plate with a shiny, mirrored border, white keycaps, and white chassis.
The Vulcan II Max weighs only 2.29 pounds (1040g), which is rather light, but it includes wide anti-slip stripes on its back that keep it from shifting while you type. For three levels of tilt adjustment, it also has two sets of flip-out feet, each with anti-slip strips. The removable translucent wrist rest for the Vulcan II Max has a smooth, matte finish and is 18.23 x 3.25 inches (463 x 82.6mm).
Roccat Vulcan II Max review: Keys
The Easy-Shift+ button duplicator technology makes it simple to customise your keyboard’s key mapping. You also get an additional 24 smart keys with additional secondary uses on top of that. Thankfully, this doesn’t become confusing despite your fears. You can choose from 5 different user accounts to set up your macros and layout precisely for each game.
The keys are elevated and rest on top of the transparent switch base, which lets the RGB lighting shine through. This elevated design is not only beautiful but also useful. Your keyboard’s base is where any dust and filth that might fall rests rather than falling underneath the keycap and disappearing forever. The wrist rest slides into slots at the bottom of the keyboard and is composed of ribbed, translucent silicone with a translucent finish. The keyboard’s lighting is channelled through 16 tabs, six of which have notches to “lock” the wrist rest in place. The effect is really attractive, especially when Roccat’s Aimo lighting is turned on.
Roccat Vulcan II Max review: RGB lighting
Whether you want it to or not, RGB lighting draws attention to itself, blazing from the crystal switches that are visible from every angle and the translucent, jelly-like palm rest. This chunkier sister, which shares its feature set with the smaller Vulcan II Mini, welcomes back Roccat’s easy-shift[+] key.
Similar to Roccat’s multi-button Kone XP Air mouse, it integrates with the Swarm companion software to provide an additional layer of customizable macro keys and modes. Typically, using this multi-function key to get over the restrictions of smaller keyboards with missing keys is its main appeal.
Roccat Vulcan II Max review: Performance
The Roccat Swarm software allows for extensive customizability with the Vulcan II Max. Users have complete control over every aspect of each key, including configuring profiles for certain games. Essentially, there are no limits to the options. The Vulcan II Max’s smooth, quick linear optical switches make it considerably better suited for gaming than typing. Fingers moved fast over the board thanks to the slick keycaps, although we don’t sweat much; if we did, the keycaps would be far too slippery. Accuracy is crucial, but so is speed.
This switch, the Titan II Optical Switch, is the main attraction. This is notable for having the linear red variation, which gives the keys extra-rapid travel. It has a 1.4mm actuation distance, which is the minimum distance you must push a key before it registers. This means that you can type more quickly because you don’t even need to touch the key.
Conclusion
A great board is the Roccat Vulcan II MAX. It has a tonne to offer gamers, being crammed with features and made to respond quickly. You will also stick out in a crowd while making everyone eat dirt in a PVP match thanks to its distinctive look. Although there were some drawbacks, such as the tiny palm rest and the need for USB connections to get the Vulcan II MAX up and running, these truly are only minor difficulties.
