Check What Is ULED TV? How Is It Different

There are many acronyms in the world of television and it can be very confusing. Recently, however, one particular acronym we’d like to talk about has become increasingly important: ULED. ULED is actually the name of a set of proprietary technologies that the Hisense company has developed for its LED televisions. Behind that, though, is a lot and a big ULED advantage, which we’ll get to in a bit. (Ultra LED) An LED television from Hisense Company, Ltd. that divides the backlight LEDs into 240 separate zones. ULED is not an OLED technology, but an LCD TV with its own LED backlight technology that also uses Quantum Dots (QD).

What is ULEDTV?

ULED is not a single technology, but rather a series of approximately 20 different patents related to speed of movement, local dimming, and wide color gamut. The difference with QLED, which uses Quantum Dot technology for a better experience, is that ULED panels are regular LED panels, but with some proprietary adjustments to improve the viewing experience and a better image. Some models use Quantum Dot technology in the ULED range, but they are not up to a good QLED panel.

In terms of colors, you get a wider color palette and everything looks brighter and more detailed than a regular LED panel. There are multiple local dimming zones for better contrast and much better reproduction of dark colors and shadows. The available resolution is 4K (3840×2160), which is very high quality.

Unfortunately, it gets tricky when it comes to movement rates. ULED panels use backlight scanning to artificially insert images where none exist. In this way, the television tricks you into believing that you are seeing 120 images when there are only 60, thanks to extra images interspersed between two real ones. While this is helpful for some people, giving them a smoother experience without the halo effect in certain situations, it’s far from the optimal solution.

Technology: ULED drives the whole frame

A one-to-one comparison between ULED and OLED TVs is not possible due to the different technologies described by these terms. ULED is a Hisense proprietary design that uses software to optimize brightness, color, motion, and various other elements. “OLED” means that the TV uses an organic electroluminescent film to create the light that transmits the image to the screen.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t compare the two devices in this regard. Because they use this thin film instead of the traditional LED backlight used in ULED devices, OLED TVs can be lighter and thinner. You’ll have no problem hanging either TV on the wall if you want, but OLED TVs can be a smaller device.

Resolution: You can get ULED in any resolution, as long as it’s 4K

4K resolution is nothing to scoff at. There aren’t many people who look at a screen with 2,160 rows of pixels and wonder, “Is that all the pixels?” But if you want the most modern and dense displays in your home, you won’t get them from ULED, which is currently only available in 4K variants. On the other hand, you’ll find the newer 8K resolution, which has twice the number of pixel rows, on OLED TVs. And of course you will pay a premium for it.
