This feature is only supported on iPhone (at least for now):
- Open Settings and go to General and then select Siri
- Turn the switch to set “Raise to Talk” to ON
The setting is immediately available, and you can try it by bringing iPhone to your ear, as if you’re talking on a phone that becomes a way to call Siri. It’s quite obvious because you hear the familiar double ping sound – even if it’s played through the upper speakers instead – which means you can give a command. As long as the iPhone is constantly held in the ear, the answer is spoken through the ear speaker. On the other hand, if you pull iPhone out of your ear after giving the original command, the answer comes through the standard speakers on the bottom of the device. Either way, this setting has no effect on calling Siri with traditional long presses of the Home button, and they will continue as expected.
Alternatively, if you have a pair of famous white in-ear headphones, Siri can be used entirely through headphones and in-ear headphones, bringing even more consideration to the answers the outside world hears. However, you still have to say the question or command orally, as there is no text-based interaction with Siri at this point in addition to editing and correcting command typos.
