How to use the Grappling Hook in Enshrouded

The Grappling Hook can only be used in certain places or after making Pull Anchors and Swing Anchors at your base. When you’re wandering, look for shiny metal anchors in the ground. These are the special points where you can use your Grappling Hook to swing over gaps, like the ones on Braelyn Bridge near the start of the video game.

Then, when you’re close enough to the anchor to use the Grappling Hook and swing across, press the button that shows up (‘E’ on a keyboard or ‘Y’ on an Xbox Controller). In the stop menu, make sure you equip the Grappling Hook to your character. If it’s just in your inventory, you won’t be able to use it. You can also add the Grappling Hook to your hotbar, which will make it place itself on your character.

Safety Tips for Crafting and Using Grappling Hooks

  • Gather the right materials: Ensure you have the required resources like rope, metal, and wood. Using flimsy materials can lead to breakage and nasty falls.
  • Sturdy construction: Double-check your crafting. A poorly made hook can snap under pressure, sending you plummeting.

  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect your grappling hook for wear and tear. Replace damaged parts promptly.
  • Anchor points: Choose secure anchor points that can withstand your weight. Rusted beams or decaying ledges are not your friends.
  • Distance and angle: Don’t overestimate your reach or grapple at an awkward angle. A miscalculated swing can leave you dangling precariously.
  • Environmental hazards: Be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for spikes, fire, or other dangers on your intended path.

Advanced Techniques for Mastering Grappling Hook Mechanics

  • When you grapple to a wall, jump off and quickly grapple to another point on the same wall. This is called a wall jump. This moves you up, making it much faster to climb vertical objects.
  • When you do a double grapple, you quickly move your grip to two different places, which can help you get around corners or across gaps.
Grip Pivots: To change direction in the middle of a swing, grapple to a point that is not on your original path. This lets you make quick turns and move with great accuracy.
  • When you’re in mid-air, don’t wait to land! You can reach farther and make smooth lines of movement by grappling from one point to another while still in the air.
Weaponized Grapple: You can pull foes closer for melee attacks or use your grapple to pull enemies off of ledges and take their weapons away.
  • Environmental Puzzles: Grappling hooks can make platforms, flip switches, and pull items, which can reveal new paths and secrets in the environment.
