Getting Started with WhatsApp Video Calls

WhatsApp offers video calling functionality on both mobile and desktop devices. Here’s how you can initiate a video call:

Making a Video Call on Mobile

On both iPhone and Android, you have two options to make a video call:

  • Option 1: From the WhatsApp Calls tab, tap the New Call button and select the contact you want to call. Then, tap the video button to start the call.
  • Option 2: From the Chats tab, find the chat of the person you want to call. Tap the video button at the top of the chat page to initiate the video call.

Switching Between Video and Voice Calls

During an ongoing WhatsApp call, you have the flexibility to switch between video and voice mode:

  • To switch from a voice call to a video call: Tap the Video button at the bottom of the screen. The other party will receive a notification, and if they accept, the call converts to a video call.
  • To switch from a video call to a voice call: Tap the Cancel Video button (the button with a video icon crossed out), and the call will revert to a voice call.

Exploring Group Video Calling on WhatsApp

WhatsApp allows you to host group video calls with up to eight participants. Here are two ways to initiate a group video call:

From a Group or Individual Chat

  • Access the Chats tab and select the chat you want to initiate a group video call with.
  • Tap the Video Call button at the top of the screen to start the call.
  • After the call begins, you can add more participants by swiping up and tapping the “Add Participant” option.

From the Calls Tab

  • Go to the Calls tab and tap the New Call button.
  • At the top of the contact list, select “New Group Call.”
  • Select up to seven participants and tap the Video button to start the call.
  • If desired, you can add more participants during the call by swiping up and selecting the “Add Participant” option.

Joining a Group Video Call on WhatsApp

If you receive an invitation to join a group video call, follow these steps:

Incoming Call

  • When you receive an invitation, you’ll see a notification.
  • If you want to accept the call, tap “Open.” To decline, tap “Ignore.”
  • If you choose to join, you can preview the call details and participants before tapping “Join.”

Missed Call
