Streamline your email workflow by including attachments with your replies on the Mac OS Mail app. Communicate more efficiently with this simple feature.
This guide is about the Include Attachments with Reply in Mail App for Mac OS X. I will try my best so that you understand this guide very well. I hope you all like this guide Include Attachments with Reply in Mail App for Mac OS X.
By default, the latest version of the Mail application in Mac OS X does not include the original e-mail attachments when you reply to that e-mail. While it can be great in many cases if you copy or copy another person’s email, it can be very frustrating to notice that the originally attached document or file is no longer visible, so the new recipient of the email doesn’t have access to the original attachment. Similarly, the absence of attachments to replies can complicate long-running e-mail chains, as it makes it more difficult to retrieve the original document that was part of the original correspondence.
However, this attachment behavior is very easy to fix, and you can do this for each individual email sent and replied through the email application, or just for a specific email thread.
Change the reply rules for all e-mail attachments
This affects all email responses and their attachments:
- When no current emails have been opened (i.e., no message in its own windows, just by looking at the general mailbox screen), drag the Edit menu down and go to Attachments, and then click Include Original Attachments In Reply.
Only include attachments from a specific email thread
You can edit the response of a single email thread instead of all messages:
- Open the desired email thread to adjust the attachment processing
- Now drag down the same “Edit” menu and go to “Attachments” and select “Include original attachments in the answer”
You can also adjust another attachment method in the Edit menu, but that’s another topic.
Note that making changes like this can increase the bandwidth of Mail, as each email now contains the original attachment and therefore needs to be resent. Even though you’re already in email, it’s not cached, so email delivery can usually take longer if your internet connection is slower, and if you’re worried about data retention due to a 4G HotSpot split, it may not be a good idea to enable this all the time.
Also note that some email providers may strangle emails that have exceeded a certain size limit, often up to 10MB or 25MB, which can be just a few images or PDFs. Finally, keep in mind that previewing Mail attachments can significantly slow down older Macs, especially when they contain the large documents mentioned above, because Mail renders them by default. If you’re experiencing an issue that is exacerbated by attachment changes, keep in mind that you can speed up Mail by disabling embedded previews in emails that contain all types of attachments, and then replace the preview with a simple file icon instead.
