Fix: ‘NVIDIA Control Panel Access Denied’ Error in Windows 11/10

‘NVIDIA Control Panel Access Denied’. “Need Permissions to Do This” usually comes up when you try to copy or move a file or folder to a different place. Most of the time, this problem happens because ‘Ownership’ is not available. Someone else’s user account has ownership of the folder or file. This article is about how to fix ‘NVIDIA Control Panel Access Denied’ Error in Windows

Even though the folder and files are in your account, you can’t make any changes to them. In this case, the problem can be fixed by making the file belong to your current user account. But you may soon find that even as an administrator, you can’t delete system files.

This is because Windows system files are owned by the Trusted Installer service by default, and Windows File Protection will stop them from being changed. So, you will get the error “Cannot access destination folder.” Read this how-to article to find out how to fix the problem in a good way.

5 Fix: ‘NVIDIA Control Panel Access Denied’ Error in Windows 11/10

Roll Back the NVIDIA Driver

If you install a new NVIDIA driver and then get the “Access denied” error, you might be able to fix it by rolling back the driver to a previous version. You can only do that if you still have the file for the old NVIDIA GPU driver. In our article about rolling back drivers, we explain how this possible fix can be used.

Even if the Roll Back button is grayed out, you might still be able to use the System Restore tool to go back to a previous NVIDIA graphics driver. When you roll Windows back to a restore point, drivers installed before the date you choose are brought back. But that will only work if your computer has a restore point that was made before you updated the driver.

Start or Restart the NVIDIA Display Container Service

  1. Click the Type here to search button or the Search box on the taskbar to access the Windows file finder tool.
  2. Input services inside the file search utility.
  3. Select Services to launch that app.
  4. Then double-click NVIDIA Display Container to view the settings for that service.
  5. Click on the Startup type menu and select Automatic from there.
  6. Next, select Start if the NVIDIA Display Container service is stopped. Or select Stop > Start to restart that service.
  7. Click Apply to set the NVIDIA Display Container service’s settings.
  8. Close the NVIDIA Display Container Properties window by clicking OK.

Update your NVIDIA graphics driver

  • First, press Win+R to open Run and enter devmgmt.msc in it to open the Device Manager app.
  • Now, expand the Display adapters category and right-click on your NVIDIA driver.
  • Next, select the Update driver option from the context menu.
  • In the next prompt, choose the Search automatically for drivers option and then follow the onscreen instructions to update the driver.
  • Once done, restart your computer and check if you are able to save NVIDIA graphics settings or not.

End NVIDIA Display Container Process

The nvdisplay.container.exe program is one of the known reasons why the CPU is being used so much. If you open Task Manager and sort the processes by how much CPU they use, you’ll see that this app is hard on the computer.

When applications get stuck and can’t be closed, resources are held for a long time. All of its leads to the bottleneck in the end. To get rid of it, right-click on the Nvidia Display Container Process and use the Task Manager to end it.

Restart NVIDIA Control Panel Services

  • Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard and type services.msc then hit Enter.
  • This will open the Services window.
  • Locate the “NVIDIA Display Container LS” service from the list. Right-click on it, and select Restart from the context menu.
  • Repeat the step above for the following services: NVIDIA LocalSystem Container, NVIDIA NetworkService Container, and NVIDIA Telemetry Container.
