Show Only Unread Emails on Mail for Mac OS: A Complete Guide

Managing a large number of emails can be time-consuming. However, there is a solution for Mac users to easily handle their unread emails without having to browse through already read ones. By setting up a smart mailbox in Mail for Mac OS X, you can create a separate inbox exclusively for unread emails.

How to Show Only Unread Emails in Mail for Mac OS X

Follow these simple steps to set up a smart mailbox in Mail for Mac OS X that displays only unread email messages:

  1. Open Mail on your Mac.
  2. Go to the “Mailbox” menu and select “New Smart Mailbox”.
  3. Give the smart mailbox a name, such as “Unread Emails Only”. Set the following parameters:
    • Contains messages that match “all” of the following conditions
    • “Message is unread”
  4. Click “OK” to create the unread mailbox.
  5. In the left sidebar, select the newly created “Unread Emails Only” mailbox under “Smart Mailboxes”.

If you don’t have any unread emails, this smart mailbox will be empty.
