Backup everything and do it now

In case something goes wrong during the update process when iOS 15 arrives, it’s best to take the time and backup everything to iTunes, Finder, or iCloud in advance.

To back up to iCloud, just plug your iPhone or iPad into a power outlet, connect to Wi-Fi and then navigate to Settings> Apple ID> iCloud> iCloud Backup and then tap Backup Now .

If you don’t have enough iCloud space for a full device backup, you can create a local backup on your computer using Finder or iTunes. Just connect your device with a Lightning or USB-C cable to your computer, launch iTunes or Finder, select your device in the left corner, and then choose to backup everything ‘On this computer’ in the backup section. . You can choose to encrypt the backup if you want.

Free up some space (a lot)

It is a good idea to free up at least 8GB or more of space on your device. If you can’t, you may want to delete some apps that you aren’t using. Maybe I’ll give up some memes. You can check your free space by going to Settings> General> iPhone / iPad Storage. You will also find suggestions here on what content is taking up the most space.

Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi and at home

Do not try to install the update while you are away from home. Just take a deep breath, make sure you’re home and connected to your own Wi-Fi network before installing the update. There is a possibility that you will have problems if you are connected to a poor quality wireless network. Regardless of how bad it is, home Wi-Fi is usually the best option, as you have more control over how it works.

Take a charger with you just in case

Although having 50% or more battery remaining is more than enough to install an update. But I will suggest that you keep your device plugged into a power source while you download and install the update. In this way, everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Some features may not be available on launch day

At this point, it has become obvious that some iOS and iPadOS features might not be available on launch day. This includes SharePlay and the final version of iCloud Private Relay. It also looks like Universal Clipboard won’t make the cut at launch either. If these are features you want to try on day one, it’s best to lower your hopes a bit as they will be available in an update at a later date.
